The Extra Mile: Breakfast |

On the Saturday after Christmas, my wife and I traveled to San Diego for New Year’s with family. We booked ourselves at the same hotel we did the past two years. It is convenient to our family, has reasonable rates and includes complimentary parking and hot breakfast. When checking in to the hotel, I casually commented that we looked forward to staying with them again and really like the hot breakfast. The desk clerk indicated that since last August, complimentary breakfast was not included in the room rate. She went on to share the breakfast cost per person. I indicated that when we booked online, I did not actually read all the details of what was included in the rate and assumed (not correctly) that breakfast was included. She apologized and did give us a certificate for complimentary breakfast the next morning. She went on to say that she would check with the general manager later in the day to see if there was anything they could do. She asked me to check in the next day. When we went down the next day, another desk clerk was on duty. I informed him of what had happened the day before and he checked our record. To our surprise, he presented us with five additional vouchers for complimentary breakfast for us for the remainder of our stay. We really think this hotel went the extra mile and know in the future we will continue to use this hotel, even without the free breakfast.D.R. – New York
